Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and Leblon, Ipanema and Arpoador Beaches: integrated solution for environmental rehabilitation

Study conducted for the City of Rio de Janeiro. The study examined solutions to the following problems: environmental quality of the lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas; control of flood flows to the lagoon; insufficient water exchanges between the lagoon and the sea; and erosion of the beaches of Leblon, Ipanema and Arpoador.

• Ensure the stability of the beaches of Leblon, Ipanema and Arpoador.
• Reduce sedimentation in the canal Jardim de Alah.
• Improve the environmental quality of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Field data analysis, numerical model simulations of the current situation and the system response to the proposed interventions, and elaboration of the Basic Project of the identified solution.

Complex lagoon and coastal system, deeply artificialized by urban occupation in its surroundings and subject to high anthropogenic pressure.
