Description

Implemented between 2010 and 2012 (30 months), Bafatá Misti Iagu ("Bafatá wants Water" in Guinean Creole) has allowed, through an integrated approach in three components - infrastructures, institutional and educational:

  • Increase coverage of drinking water supply from 24.9% to 48.6% (7,875 beneficiaries);
  • Empowering local institutions (29 sessions, 219 participants - 76 are women);
  • Raise the community awareness to hygiene/consumer-payer principle (more than 19,000 beneficiaries).

Objectives

  • Expand the sustainable access to drinking water in the city of Bafatá from 20% to 40% of the city population

Results

4 Results were provided in connection with different optical sustainability of water supply in the city:

  • R1. Management model os water supply optimized to ensures accessto water in a sustainable way;
  • R2. Local Actors of the Water Sector trained and able to implement the management model;
  • R3. Infrastructures rehabilitated and able to provide safe water;
  • R4. Awareness campaign implemented (Environmental Education, Consumer-Payer and Hygiene).
