Description

The project recommendations and proposed adjustments to the profile of submarine outfalls based on low resistance soils with the objective of minimizing the possible settling of the structure without compromising its stability was one of the strong motives and predicted innovations of the project. This project was part of the IBEROEKA project between Spain and Mexico, which focused on breakwaters, with complementary objectives.

Objectives

  • Apply the knowledge acquired to solve the typical problems of the construction and exploitation of submarine outfalls on muddy soil.
  • Analyze the soil-structure-wave interaction, specifically in the areas of infra-excavation, liquefaction and loss of soil resistance;
  • Develop techniques to deal with the problem of the construction of submarine outfalls in regions with low resistance soil;

Results

• Deepening of the knowledge about the behavior of conduits in low resistant soils subject to the action of the agitation;
• Generation of a group of data on the behavior of submarine outfalls in muddy bottoms for different agitation conditions;
• Verification of the relationship between the specific weights of the structure and the liquefied soil that is determinant in its stability;
• Recommendations to support the design of submarine outfalls in low mechanical resistance soils.
