Description
It is possible to use treated wastewater for agricultural irrigation safely and guaranteeing the sustainability of water resources. The REUSE R&D and innovation project studied the impact of using this water on the development of plants and fruits, the balance of nutrients and possible savings in the dosage of mineral fertilizers, assessing the impact on environmental receptors (soil and water) and on the irrigation system of farms.
Objectives
- Promote the use of water for reuse in agriculture.
Results
The solar disinfection technology produced water for reuse with the quality required for drip irrigation of the pomegranate orchard and no significant impacts were observed on the irrigation system and on the development of plants and fruits.
