Description

The project aims to support a water utility responsible for the management of the entire urban water cycle in the metropolitan area of Manila to reduce their non-revenue water (NRW) level and improve the management of the system (6,500 km of water mains, 1,600 DMA and 3,800 meters) by performing a diagnosis and by proposing measures for NRW reduction using an infrastructure asset management approach, while contributing for the improvement of the service provided to more than 1,300,000 customers.

Objectives

  • Development of an implementation plan and NRW management monitoring
  • Proposal of measures to efficiently address NRW
  • Analysis of current situation and capabilities to address NRW reduction

Results

The implementation of an infrastructure asset management methodology methodology applied to NRW reduction allowed to identify critical aspects in the operational control of water losses concerning monitoring and control, active leakage detection, bursts repair, pressure management, customer meters management and illegal consumption, as well as to identify priority areas for real and apparent losses reduction and supporting the proposal of measures to improve system's performance.
