Description
The project aims to improve current barriers for controlling pharmaceutical compounds in urban wastewater treatment plants. Pharmaceutical compounds (PhCs) are emerging contaminants of environmental-health concern and WWTP are crucial barriers against PhCs. Demonstrate measures to improve the removal of PhCs are being taken in two conventional activated sludge Portuguese WWTP located in water stressed regions (Lisbon and Algarve).
Objectives
- Test new adsorbents produced from local vegetal wastes (carob and cork).
- Produce valuable knowledge for water resource protection from PhCs and associated environmental policy.
