Description

The need to create the appropriate mechanisms to ensure the minimization of safety risks directly and indirectly involved in the water supply process is recognized. In this sense, Water Safety Plans are global and reliable application tools for risk management, and therefore are essential instruments to ensure a consistent and continuous supply of safe water for human consumption.  Cape Verde has serious limitations on its water availability, which may lead to conflicts between different users. 

Objectives

  • To improving the resilience of public water supply systems, through institutional support.

Results

• Workshop to raise awareness and preliminary training in Water Safety Plans;
• "Case study" - development and implementation of the PSA for a pilot water supply system - Praia city;
• Preparation of the Manual for the development and implementation of PSA in Cape Verde;
• Preparation of the Manual for the Prevention and Management of Conflicts in Water Use.

Next challenges

Production of a tool-kit (software and manual / guide) on prevention and management of water conflicts designed according to the specific political, economic, social, technological and environmental specificities of Cape Verde.
