Description

The COSMO Program consists of the systematic acquisition of coastal state indicators, based on identical and standardized collection, processing and analysis patterns for the entire national coastline over three years. The COSMO Program includes the carrying out of hydrographic and topographic surveys using aerial and terrestrial means in areas of greater vulnerability and risk along the coastline.

Objectives

  • Understanding the impacts of climate change on the coastline and defining adaptation strategies
  • Support medium and long-term coastal planning and land use strategies in risk areas

Results

Optimization of coastal management, based on informed and timely evidence-based decision making, and particularly relevant:

  • In assessing the effects / impacts on the coastline of coastal protection / defense interventions already carried out and their degree of success;
  • In programming and future definition of new coastal protection / defense interventions;
  • In the increase of the projection capacity of scenarios future evolution of the coastline.
