Description

The Associação de Defesa do Património de Mértola - ADPM, was constituted in December 1980, developing since then a strategy of action focused on the training of individuals and the promotion of endogenous resources.

ADPM's mission is fundamentally related to the economic, social and cultural development of the territories where it participates, sharing strategically with public and private entities, but also with the citizens, the responsibility for active participation in the dynamics of its own local development processes.

From the beginning, they serve as a guideline, principles and values that in every way approximate the concept of sustainable development, which would only become world-wide in 1987 in the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development - Brutland Report. Deepening its role in the local development of the municipality of Mértola, ADPM extended the thematic and geographical scope of its areas of intervention in the last decade. The projects developed individually or in partnership, in Portugal and in other countries, give ADPM a transnational dimension, which further enriches the local experience. In a logic of Global Thinking - Acting Local, we understand multiculturalism and diversity as bases for the development of peoples. Public Benefit Institution and considered by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a non-governmental organization for development, ADPM is an associate / founder of other regional and national associations. Its also a founding member of Ideia Alentejo and Confederation of Associations of Defense of the Environment. It belongs to and collaborates with Associations, Networks and International Platforms, in particular in the areas of Cooperation and Education for Development, Nature Conservation and Biodiversity, Sustainable Development and Support to Third Countries.
